CHAPTER 5
“Nico? What are you doing down here?” she asked. “I came down here for a visit” I replied. “Are you okay? You look like you have been crying” she said. I had been crying. My ass hand been crying for the past couple of hours. “I’m straight” I said slightly turning away from her. “No you aren’t. I know you. What’s wrong?” she asked. “I just came back from my grandma’s grave” I said. “Oh. I’m sorry. Sorry to hear about that. I’m sorry I didn’t say anything sooner. After we broke up I went to stay with my dad in Puerto Rico. He’s never home so I just came back home. I’ve only been here about two weeks. I’m sorry for your loss. I know how close you were to your grandmother” she said. I just stared at her.
What the fuck was she being so nice all of a sudden for? My grandmother died almost six months ago. It’s a bit too damn late for all that sympathy shit.
“Did you want something? I’m tired and I need to pack. I am leaving early in the morning” I said. She got this look on her face. “You aren’t going to stay longer?” she asked. “No. What’s the point? Aint shit for me here” I said looking at her. “What about your son? He’s here” she said. “Really? His grandmother is keeping him from me. I was able to see my son for all of about ten minutes today. I’m just going to keep doing what I been doing, sending him some money. That’s all I need to do” I said.
“Can I at least get your phone number so I can call you sometime?” she asked. “Gabriella…cut the bullshit. Don’t ask for my number because you are feeling sorry for me or feeling guilty” I said. I kind of yelled at her because she jumped back. I could see tears form in her eyes. “That isn’t why I wanted your number. I miss talking to you Nico. Despite how things ended I still really like you. I just want us to be friends” she said as she began to cry.
“Fuck” I said turning away from her. I hated making a female cry. I just didn’t like to see it. “I’m sorry Gabriela. I didn’t mean to yell at you. I just had a bad time since I got on this damn island. The only time I’ve smiled is looking at my grandmother’s picture. She is the only thing that made me happy. Well…besides my son. But now I can’t even be a dad because his mom and grandmother want to be some spiteful, bitter ass bitches. I’m just pissed off. I didn’t mean to snap on you” I said turning back towards her.
She really looked like I hurt her feelings. I have never seen Gabriela look like this. I don’t know why, but I walked up to her and gave her a hug. “I’m sorry” I said as I held her tight.
